PORTALES — A Portales bar has sold its package liquor license to the city's new grocery store for an undisclosed amount.
An application for a transfer of ownership and location for a license from Goober McCool's Saloon and Spirit Shoppe to Farmers Country Market was sent to the city of Portales by the New Mexico Department of Alcohol and Gaming, Regulation and Licensing Deputy Superintendent Alex Sanchez confirmed Tuesday.
The city must hold a public hearing for the application, and if it is approved, it will be returned to NMDAG for final documents and issuance of the license, Sanchez said.
The public hearing for the application will be held at the Portales City Council's Nov. 14 meeting, according to City Clerk Joan Martinez-Terry.
Farmers Country Market Manager Martin Delgado confirmed his store had purchased Goober McCool's package liquor license, adding that the bar had not sold Farmers its dispenser license.
He said the store is hoping to begin selling package liquor around Dec. 1.
Goober McCool's owner Susan Hamilton-Dick declined to comment.
