Portales soccer teams fall to Hope Christian

ALBUQUERQUE — The Portales girls soccer team could not keed up with Hope Christian in a 5-0 road loss on Saturday.

“We couldn’t make our passes and our touches and they were quick and in the right place at the right time,” Rams coach Ruben Tellez said. “We got beat today.”

Portales was outshot 19-2 and could not take advantage of the few chances it created.

“We played defense probably 70 minutes of the game,” Tellez said. “Every time we had an opportunity we’d overshoot or our passes weren’t there and we’d have to go the other way.”

The Rams hit the road again on Tuesday when they face Moriarty.

The Portales boys soccer team also faced Hope Christian on the road, losing 6-3.

The Rams and the Huskies were tied at the half but Hope Christian outscored Portales 5-2 over the final 40 minutes to hand the Rams their fifth loss of the season.

The Huskies improved to 11-1.

“We had to play people out of position and had some mental breakdowns in the second half,” Portales coach Nathan Dodge said after an injury left the Rams down a player.

The boys team will also travel to Moriarty on Tuesday.
