ENMU volleyball team honored

PORTALES — The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for the 2016-17 season after posting a 3.314 GPA in the classroom, according to a release from the school.

"Although we offer all the academic resources and guidance to help our players succeed in the classroom, it's really our kids and their personal drive, positive choices and commitment to excel academically,’ ENMU Coach Sia Poyer said in the release. ‘They are certainly proud to represent Greyhound Volleyball positively in the academic realm, but their high academic standards are consistent with their high expectations in their professional lives after college.’

The award honors teams that display excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA. Three LSC volleyball teams earned the honor for 2016-17 — ENMU, Angelo State and Texas Woman’s.

The Hounds open the season on Sept. 1 against Wayne State in the Oredigger Classic in Golden, Colorado.
