1982: A half-inch of rain was reported northwest of Melrose and most of the region got wet.

Weather observers reported House received 8/10 of an inch, in addition to hail.

Other moisture totals: Clovis - .70 of an inch; Cannon Air Force Base - .32; Texico - .30; Grier - .21.

1957: Clovis school officials said they were alarmed by reports of hazing.

Superintendent Travis Stovall said "something will be done and done immediately if it is not halted," the Clovis News-Journal reported.

Ninth-graders were targeted for hazing by high school students, officials said.

Stovall said most states had laws against hazing and that "Hell Week" had been changed to "Help Week."

He urged parents to assist school authorities with the problem and "nip it in the bud."
