Deaths still under investigation

CLOVIS — Police on Friday said they believe they know the cause of the argument that left two people dead early Thursday morning, but they’re still investigating.

Capt. Roman Romero said officials will release additional information after they receive reports from the Office of the Medical Investigator about the deaths of David Lopez, 43, and Carlos Gallegos, 25.

Lopez was found shot and unresponsive in an apartment on the 1000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Gallegos, who had been stabbed, was found dead in a car that crashed into a fence near MLK and Aspen Street and came to rest in the ditch.

Clovis Police Chief Doug Ford said Thursday evening it was possible Lopez and Gallegos killed each other, and there was no reason at the time to believe any other people were involved. Romero said followup information is still needed to reach any conclusions.
