Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Supporting moms in need

Amanda Glover was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. She is married to Steven Glover, who is stationed at Cannon Air Force Base. They have two sons, Bradley and Caleb.

Glover and her family moved to Clovis five years ago. She was six months pregnant with a two-year-old when she moved to Clovis. She said that she struggled with breastfeeding the second time around so she joined the Clovis breastfeeding support group.

She said during that time she realized she was the odd woman out because she didn't always feel it was an enjoyable process. So, she wanted mothers who struggle with breastfeeding, once they leave the hospital, to have access to support in a non-judgmental way.

She took a four-hour course and got her certification as a CLC, Certified Lactation Counselor. She officially started her business on April 1, 2016.

She also volunteers at the local Pregnancy Resource Center and is one of the main members of the support group today. She hosts a free breastfeeding class once a month.

What do you like about your job?

I love meeting families. I love being able to offer support to mothers. I'm a big socialite and networker, and so I like to feel like I'm a part of a support team.

What don't you like about your job?

Sometimes the work can get in the way of family time because I don't want to turn it off, which is my fault. It's a 24-hour job and sometimes balancing it all can be difficult.

What's your idea of a perfect day?

I have a son in elementary school and one in daycare. So, when I'm able to meet with clients and get all my work done, pick up my children and just have no responsibilities in the evening - that's a perfect day.

Tell us a story about your childhood.

I have been told that my mom had always foreseen my being meant to be in a position to support others. She said I would get up early mornings and decorate the seating for whoever had a birthday. I would even use toilet paper to decorate if we didn't have decorations. I wanted them to have that special moment on their day.

What's your favorite TV show, past and present?

My past favorite show is "Gilmore Girls." This show is my jam. But I don't like the new season that much. My current shows are any of the "Real Housewives."

When you were a kid, what did you think you'd be doing as an adult?

I thought I'd be a veterinarian. I love animals. I would collect dogs if I could.

What's your favorite song at the moment?

I'm a huge music person, so its hard for me to choose. But I get woozy over Paul McCartney. I love anything from the Beatles.

What's your favorite taste?

I love Coke Zero. I see beautiful bubbles when I drink it. I love it.

What's your favorite smell?

The smell of a newborn. It's by far my favorite smell ever. Scentsy created a newborn scent that smells like baby powder to me. But I just don't think you can really duplicate that smell. I wish I could bottle it.

What do you envision your life being like in 10 years?

My husband should be retired from the military by then. My life will be busy with my boys still but I hope to still be supporting women and mothers in some aspect.
