ENMU vs. Angelo State

Women

5:30 p.m.

Records: Angelo State 20-4, 14-4 LSC. ENMU 20-5, 16-2 LSC.

Last time out: The Greyhounds claimed their fourth-straight win, topping Cameron 81-72 on the road Saturday. Angelo State edged West Texas A&M 68-66 at home Saturday.

Last meeting: Jan. 21. ENMU handed the Rambelles their only home defeat of the season, 76-72 in overtime. Angelo State leads the series 41-24, but the teams have split the last eight meetings.

Notes: Angelo State can still catch ENMU for a share of the Lone Star Conference regular season title, with a win at ENMU, a win Saturday at Western New Mexico and an ENMU loss Saturday against Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Greyhounds, however, would still receive the No. 1 seed in the tournament thanks to a season sweep of Tarleton State. ... The Greyhounds jumped three places to 18th in the Division II Media Poll, and are joined in the poll by the Rambelles at No. 24. The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association poll has ENMU in the “receiving votes” category, while Angelo State is No. 19. ... Taylor Dorsey leads ASU at 17.2 points per game on 46.9 percent shooting. She is 70 points away from 1,000 for her career. Senior Jasmine Prophet leads the conference in field goal percentage at 57 percent, and averages 14 points and seven rebounds.

Men

7:30 p.m.

Records: Angelo State, 14-10, 6-10 LSC. ENMU 12-14, 6-10 LSC.

Last time out: The Rams lost at home to West Texas A&M 90-81. ENMU defeated Cameron 81-73 in overtime for their first four-game LSC winning streak since 2006.

Last meeting: Jan. 21, Angelo State 84-68.

Notes: The final two spots in the eight-team LSC tournament field are up for grabs between Angelo State, ENMU and Midwestern State (7-11 LSC). Scenarios for each are listed below. ... The Greyhounds are chasing their first five-game winning streak since running off six in a row in 2004. ... The Rams, coached by 2001 Portales High graduate Cinco Boone, have the LSC’s top scorer in Quay King. King, a 6-foot-4 senior from Atlanta, is coming off a career-high 31 points against WT. He is averaging 20.1 points per game and is No. 4 in Division II with 91 made 3-pointers.

ENMU scenarios: Would finish seventh with a 2-0 week and be eliminated with an 0-2 week. If ENMU splits, it faces an unlikely route to the conference tournament — needing two West Texas A&M wins and two Texas-Permian Basin losses for a tiebreaker over Midwestern State. The Greyhounds would finish eighth if that happened, or seventh if that happens and Angelo State loses Saturday at Western New Mexico (0-16 LSC).

Angelo State scenarios: A win Thursday gives Angelo State the No. 7 seed, and a split either way means a playoff spot. With a loss to ENMU and a win over WNMU, the Rams will finish either No. 7 (ENMU loss Saturday) or No. 8 (ENMU win Saturday). If Angelo State finishes 7-11, it holds a two-team tiebreaker against Midwestern State and a three-way tiebreaker against MSU and ENMU. The Rams are eliminated if swept.

Midwestern State scenarios: The Mustangs, who finished the season on a 2-9 slump, make the playoffs if either ENMU or ASU are swept. If Angelo State is swept, MSU finishes seventh (or eighth if both West Texas A&M wins twice and Texas-Permian Basin loses twice). If ENMU is swept, MSU finishes eighth. If both teams split, the Mustangs take the eighth spot if Texas-Permian Basin wins at least once or West Texas A&M loses at least once.
