Clovis man found guilty on sex charges

A Clovis man was found guilty Tuesday afternoon on kidnapping and criminal sexual penetration charges.

Joshua Jackson, 30, faces up to 44 years in prison on seven total charges — kidnapping, two counts of criminal sexual penetration, criminal sexual contact and two counts of battery against a household member. Six are felonies, with one of the battery charges a misdemeanor.

Sentencing will be held at a later date.

Jackson is already serving an 18-year sentence for a February 2016 conviction on kidnapping and battery charges.

Judge Drew Tatum presided over the two-day trial, which concluded with closing arguments in the morning and the jury decision around 12:30 p.m., Chief Deputy District Attorney Brian Stover said.

“I’m pleased with the verdict,” Stover said. “I’m mostly pleased with the work of Brent Aguilar of the Clovis Police Department, who was the case agent. He really took the time with this victim, who has mostly been a victim her entire life.”

The charges stemmed from an April 2015 incident where a woman who lived with Jackson was sexually assaulted and threatened with a knife.

A phone call placed to Jackson’s attorney, Jonathan C. Miller of Albuquerque, was not immediately returned.
