County clerk dies in Lubbock hospital

Curry County Clerk Jo Lynn Queener died Thursday night in a Lubbock hospital, with family at her side, County Manager Lance Pyle said.

Queener had been transported to Lubbock via ambulance early Tuesday afternoon.

Family members said she suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm.

She was 48.

“(She) was a beloved member of our community, a great asset to Curry County and will be sorely missed,” Pyle said. “I ask the residents of Curry County to keep her family and her county family in your thoughts and prayers.”

Queener in June defeated two other candidates, incumbent Rosalie Riley and Nikki McDermid, to win the Republican primary in the clerk’s race.

She was unopposed in the November general election and took office this month.

Her position will be filled by Deputy Clerk Annie Hogland until county commissioners can appoint a successor, officials said.
