1977: Clovis city commissioners turned down an offer of federal mediation for police harassment allegations, but agreed to establish a human rights board or commission to handle concerns.

Five of the six commissioners present for the meeting voted to turn down the feds' offer. Frank Murray cast the only dissenting vote.

The issue was raised after Mexican-Americans in Clovis complained to city officials about harassment and mistreatment by Clovis police.

1972: Texico school officials said their new gymnasium would be complete by early March.

It included dressing rooms and had a seating capacity of up to 1,200 with chairs on the floor.

The building cost $347,000.

1962: John McMillion, managing editor of the Clovis News-Journal, was elected president of the New Mexico United Press International Editors.

He succeeded Portales News-Tribune Editor Gordon Greaves.

Milt Lowe, editor of the Tucumcari Daily News, was named vice president of the UPI group.
