Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Meetings watch: Clovis City Commission

The Clovis city commission is scheduled to meet at 5:15 p.m. today at the North Annex of the Clovis-Carver Public Library.

Among the agenda items is a $10,000 request from the Curry County Events Center to use lodger’s tax funds to help promote a Travis Tritt concert set for Jan. 13 at the events center.

Events Center Special Events Manager Joelle Reed is appealing directly to the commission because the lodger’s tax board meets quarterly, and the Tritt concert was booked following the board’s October meeting.

The event promoter, Spectra Presents, anticipates selling 1,500 tickets for the concert based on current market analysis. The funds would promote the concert through New Mexico and Texas and online.

Other items on the agenda include:

• Election of one member to serve on the Parks, Recreation and Beautification District 2 Committee, filling the void left by Terri Marney’s resignation. Jamaal Williams and Shawn Luscombe have applied for the vacancy.

• Award presentations for the Christmas Lights Parade and the city supervisor of the quarter.

• A recognition of charitable contributions made by BNSF Railways.
