Hounds going back to Heart of Texas

STAFF REPORT

Eastern New Mexico University is heading back to the Heart of Texas. They’ll see Fort Hays State when they get there.

The Greyhounds, following a 7-4 regular season, will head to Copperas Cove, Texas for a 6 p.m. (CST) Dec. 3 kickoff in the C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl.

In last year’s game against Arkansas Tech, ENMU got off to a slow start and couldn’t catch the Wonder Boys ina 51-35 setback.

“The experience of going last year will help us,” ENMU coach Josh Lynn said in a release from the school. “Moving forwards, we are going to get ready for this game.”

Fort Hays State, which also finished 7-4, finished fourth in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. The Tigers played in the Mineral Water Bowl last season, and this is the first time in school history it will play postseason games in back-to-back seasons.

This is the fourth year the game features Division II teams.

Tickets are not yet available, but announcements will be made on ENMU’s web sites and social networks. Inquiries on tickets can also be made to the athletic department at 575-562-4309.

The Greyhounds finished fourth in the LSC, but received the invite to the Heart of Texas Bowl after the three teams ahead of it made other postseason choices. Both LSC champ Texas A&M-Commerce and Midwestern State were chosen for the Division II championship bracket, while third-place finisher Texas A&M-Kingsville is eyeing the Live United Texarkana Bowl in Arkansas.

“We are very proud of Josh Lynn, his staff and our entire football team for their outstanding season,” Athletic Director Greg Waggoner said. “I am confident that they will represent ENMU and the Lone Star Conference in a first-class manner. We hope all of Greyhound nation will consider traveling to Copperas Cove to support the Greyhounds and this bowl game.”
