Clovis firefighters battle the blaze at Affordable Automotive near the intersection of Seventh and Ash streets.

Staff report

Cars in for repair were destroyed and one person was treated for burns after a fire broke out at an auto repair shop in the 700 block of Ash Street in Clovis on Tuesday afternoon.

“I understand they were working on a vehicle and somehow something got going,” said Clovis Fire Department Battalion Chief Dale Hand of the fire at Affordable Automotive.

“There was a lot of heavy fire and smoke,” Hand said. “There were several cars in there, which were a total loss.”

Hand said one of the shop occupants was treated for leg burns, but not hospitalized. None of the surrounding businesses were damaged by the fire.

The cause remains under investigation, Hand said.
