FARWELL — Sophomore Andrew Underbrink posted a score of 79 Monday to lead Portales High’s boys in the Texico Invitational golf tournament, played at Farwell Country Club.

Only two teams competed in the boys event, with Cl,ovis posting a four-man score of 320 to 342 for the Rams.

Underbrink’s tally was the second-best of the day for the boys. Clovis junior Jake Foster posted a score of 73.

Other scores for the Rams were an 87 by freshman Austin Davis, 88s by senior Jordan Baros and Mario Cordova and 93 by junior Zach Newberry.

Texico and Clovis were the lone full squads on the girls side, and the Lady Wolverines won that matchup easily with a tally of 367, 22 shots ahead of the Lady Wildcats.

Junior Bailey Rowley was the only Lady Rams player in the event, and she finished with a score of 90. Meantime, Dora’s Daelynn Lee had the best score on the girls side with a round of 87, two shots ahead of Jessica Jorde of Texico.

The next outing for PHS squads will be a week from today in the Spring River Classic at Roswell. The event will be played at the Spring River and New Mexico Military golf courses.
