The following took place at Tuesday’s Roosevelt County Commission meeting held at the L.C. Cozzens Administration Offices:

• The meeting went into a public hearing for the 2016-2020 Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan. Mandi Park, the county health care assistance administrator, presented the plan which included 35 total projects, with 13 new projects added. Some of the projects for 2016 include the reconstruction of three miles of South Roosevelt Road 8, Roosevelt County Fairgrounds improvements and secure historical records storage for the county clerk’s office. The plan was approved by the commission.

• The commission renewed the contract of Misdemeanor Probation Monitoring Officer Tamara Peel. The contract is good for one year.

• County Commission Chair Kendell Buzard said he attended an endangered species public hearing meeting in Truth or Consequences where he said more than 250 people attended. The meeting was about the expanded territory for the Mexican gray wolf to the California and Texas borders and from Interstate 40 South to Mexico. Buzard said the crowd was split on their support for the expansion, but the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will be making a decision soon on whether to expand soon. Buzard said it would “greatly affect the state” if the expansion was made as the wolf would be in more parts of state, which he says will bring more regulations to those counties in order to protect the wolf.
