Hounds add hoops assistant

Matt Wilson will be the men’s basketball assistant coach next season at Eastern New Mexico University under interim head coach Stott Carter.

Wilson, 26, a native of The Woodlands, Texas, spent the past two years as a graduate assistant at Baylor, which won the NIT championship in 2013 and reached the NCAA men’s Sweet 16 last season. He arrived at ENMU last week and is participating in the Greyhounds’ summer camps.

“I’m excited,” Wilson said of the opporturnity at ENMU. “I believe in Stott’s mission for the program, and I’m excited to get rolling.”

Wilson played for three seasons at Division I American University in Washington, D.C., helping the Eagles reach the NCAA tournament twice. He earned an MBA from Rice University.

Carter was named the head coach at ENMU in late April after Andrew Helton resigned to tend to a family matter. Carter. He served four seasons as Helton’s lead assistant.
