The clock is ticking for Dora high school senior Katie Bickley in choosing a college.
As many students across the nation, Bickley is busy these days thumbing through college brochures and visiting campuses to make the best decision for her future.

Dora senior Katie Bickley walks Eastern New Mexico University’s Music Building halls Tuesday on her way to attend a dual college credit class. Bickley is deciding this month where to attend college and is choosing between three out-of-state universities.
The prospective college student: Katie Bickley is an honor student at Dora High School and takes dual credit college courses at Eastern New Mexico University.
She’s involved with an array of extra curricular activities including the Dora Business Professionals of America program, singing in ENMU’s University Singers choir, and serving as editor of her school’s yearbook.
She’s considering studying both math and music and though she hasn’t decided what she wants to do professionally, she’s considering teaching.
Bickley is also the great-grandniece of science-fiction pioneer and late ENMU professor Jack Williamson.
The contenders:
• The College of Wooster in Ohio.
Fast fact: Total enrollment for the 2013-2014 year was 2,116.
• St. Olaf College in Minnesota.
Fast fact: More than two-thirds of all St. Olaf students study abroad before graduating.
• Scripps College in California.
Fast fact: The campus has a tradition of afternoon tea that takes place every Wednesday afternoon during the academic year.
What are the top five qualities you look for in a college?
1. Offers a liberal arts education.
2. Small campus and small student body.
3. Opportunities for independent study and research.
4. Lots of musical opportunities for majors and non-majors.
5. A strong sense of community.
Would you study abroad?
Yes.
On-campus or off-campus living?
On-campus.
Of the three colleges, which college would your parents choose?
They both said they would like to be 18 again and go to St. Olaf.
What’s one sentimental object you won’t leave to college without?
An autobiography signed by my uncle (Williamson).
What do you hope to get out of the college experience?
I want to have a broad basis of knowledge regardless of what my major is.
Who’s opinion do you value most when making this decision?
I value my parents’ opinion. I feel they know what my priorities are.
