Zias win fifth rodeo of season

BROWNWOOD, Texas — Senior TiAda Gray and junior Keely Weger took second and third in breakaway roping over the weekend, helping Eastern New Mexico University’s women take first place in the Ranger College Rodeo.

The Zias, notching their fifth win in seven rodeos during the 2013-14 school year, finished with 255 points to 233 1/3 for second-place Tarleton State.

Gray finished second in both the average and short go in breakway roping, while Weger was third in the average and short go.

ENMU’s men, meantime, finished eighth with 150 points. Tarleton won that team title with 710 points, while Weatherford College was second at 520.

Senior Logan Medlin led the Greyhounds, placing second with his partner in team roping. They were second in the first go, short go and average.

Portales freshman Koby Lovett, meantime, split fourth and fifth in the first go of calf roping.

ENMU rodeo teams return to action this weekend in the Western Texas College rodeo, beginning on Thursday.
