Boys
Onate (4-11) at Clovis (8-5)
5:30 p.m. today at The Rock
On the air: KCLV-AM 1240, KTQM-FM 99.9.
Last time out: Clovis defeated Espanola Valley 69-62 on the road Thursday for its second-straight victory. The Knights defeated Tornillo, Texas, 51-46 on Tuesday. The Knights have improved lately after starting the season 0-5.
Last meeting: 2013, 55-48 Clovis.
Onate players to watch: G Isaiah Blanco, Jr., 5-10; G Josh Gandara, Sr., 5-10; P Kal McCorkle, Sr., 5-10.
Notes: This game finishes somewhat of a Las Cruces grand slam, as the Wildcats will have played Mayfield, Las Cruces, Centennial and the Knights. Clovis coach Matt King said it wasn’t an intentional effort to get Clovis used to basketball in the state’s southern area.
“To be honest, they were really good with us in the scheduling process (in the Las Cruces school district),” King said. “When we can get 5A games and get them against good quality opponents, we’ll take them. It might not happen every year, but that’s how it worked out this year.”

Girls
Clovis (13-0) at Alamogordo (6-7)
3:30 p.m. today
Radio: KCLV-FM 99.1.
Last time out: The Lady Wildcats dominated Rio Rancho Cleveland 73-32 on the road on Jan. 3. The Lady Tigers won at Chaparral 72-46 on Tuesday, and were scheduled to host Hobbs on Friday night.
Last meeting: January 2012, the Lady Cats nearly pitched a shutout in the first half and crushed Alamo 61-18 at the Rock
Alamo players to watch: Lauren Guinn, 5-9, So., P; Kristyn Archuleta, 5-10, Sr., F.
Of note: The Lady Tigers will complete a run through District 4-5A this weekend. They lost to Carlsbad 55-38 on Dec. 28 in their own tournament. … Clovis has dominated the series in recent years, and that trend is likely to continue. Guinn (three points) and Arculeta (two) are the only returning players who scored in last year’s meeting. … Alamogordo is young, with six of the 11 players on its roster in the sophomore class. … The schedule toughens up for the Lady Cats, beginning next weekend in Albuquerque with games against Valley on Friday and La Cueva on Saturday.
Quotable: “We’re just going to go out and worry about ourselves. We’ve had a good week of practice and shored up some things on our end.” — CHS coach Jeff Reed, on today’s game.
