Latest movie marathon mixed bag

Latest update on VHS video guy is that I have yet to be able to reach him, so to my one inquirer, I do not yet know if his collection includes the 1988 film “Justin Case.”

But on a DVD note, I enjoyed another movie marathon for the first time in awhile Friday night, watching three new releases:

• “Grown Ups 2”: It wasn’t nearly as cute or funny as the first one. The best way I can describe it is as being blah. There was no cute and meaningful story line of finding yourself as in the first one. The characters were really just “hanging out.”

• “The Heat”: It was absolutely adorable. As always, Sandra Bullock plays the uptight character beautifully and Melissa McCarthy is phenomenal as the obnoxiously abrasive one. It’s not a movie for children, because due to a lot of bad language but there’s also a lot of humor.

• “The Colony”: Post-apocalyptic movies are always intriguing to some extent because they are what-if stories. This one was not the best I’ve seen but it’s worth giving one watch. But of course, there’s the stereotypical story of an inkling of hope mixed with imminent danger that’s left hanging at the end.
