Capitan 34, Fort Sumner 12

Records: Fort Sumner 4-6, Capitan 7-4.

Difference: The Tigers scored twice in the first 3 1/2 minutes and never looked back in a Class 1A playoff quarterfinal. Capitan, seeded third in the six-team bracket, travels to second-seeded Escalante next week in semifinal play.

Difference-makers: Fort Sumner, Nick Sanchez caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Garrett Hisel in the first quarter and Michael Giannini ran 55-yards for a score in the third stanza. Capitan, Tracker Bowen and Tucker Fields each scored a pair of touchdowns.

Springlake-Earth 16, Bovina 15

Records: Bovina 2-7 (1-4 District 3-1A Division II), Springlake Earth 4-6 (3-1).

Difference: Bovina came up short on a 2-point conversion try in the second overtime. The teams were tied 3-3 at the end of regulation and 10-10 after the first OT.

Difference-makers: Springlake-Earth, junior Elijah Ramon scored both TDs for the Wolverines, on a 20-yard run in the first overtime and a 1-yard run in the second. Bovina, Bernabe DeLaCruz and Joseph Casas each scored touchdowns in the OT.

Of note: Sudan finished in a three-way tie for the district title with idle Farwell and Sudan, which blanked Morton 34-0. All three teams will make the playoffs.

Littlefield 34, Muleshoe 6

Records: Muleshoe 4-6 (2-3), Littlefield 6-4 (4-1).

Difference: The Wildcats jumped out to a 14-0 lead midway through the first quarter and cruised to finish second behind Bushland in the district.

Difference-makers: Muleshoe, Austin Ross caught three passes for 40 yards, including a second-quarter, 21-yard TD pass from Danny Campos.

Of note: The Mules finished fourth in the six-team district and had already clinched a postseason berth.
