Coyotes post victory over Floyd

DORA — The Dora Coyotes opened a 26-point halftime lead and went on to beat Floyd 67-19 in a 6-man football game on Saturday.

Senior Jestin Watson and junior Eddie Arzate each rushed for more than 100 yards for the Coyotes (6-2), ranked third in 6-man football. Meantime, the Broncos (1-5) completed their abbreviated season after having to drop down from 8-man at the start of the year due to lack of numbers.

“I thought we played pretty well,” Dora coach Mason McBee, whose team ends its regular season on Friday at San Jon. “They have some good players, including Colby Rogers.

“I thought they were a pretty good team. They did some things pretty well.”

Arzate threw two touchdown passes to junior J.J. Tarango for the Coyotes, while eighth-grader Zack Dewbre returned a pass interception 30 yards for a score.

“We just had too many turnovers in the first half, and we missed too many tackles,” Floyd coach Steve Foust said. “They just executed better than we did.”

The Broncos scored on a 35-yard pass from W.T. Whitecotton to Rogers and a 1-yard run by Rogers in the first quarter, adding an extra-point conversion pass from Whitecotton to Rogers after the latter tally. Their other score came in the second quarter on a 1-yard run by Terral Watson.

“I was proud of our kids,” Foust said. “They’ve worked hard all year, and we had fun through it all.”
