Junior forward Maurisa Jones had her first two-goal match on Sunday and Eastern New Mexico University rolled to a 4-1 Lone Star Conference women’s soccer victory over West Texas A&M at the ENMU pitch.

ENMU (4-4-2, 1-1-1 LSC) posted its fourth all-time win over the Lady Buffs (3-4-4, 1-1-1) and snapped a four-match losing streak in the series. It was also the first time the Zias have scored more than two goals in a match against WT.

Junior midfielder Alyssa Prince had a goal and two assists for the Zias. She gave ENMU a 1-0 halftime lead, heading a pass from sophomore midfielder Carolyn Armijo past WT goalkeeper Yvette Bedoy midway through he period for her third goal of the season.

Jones then tallied her third and fourth goals of the campaign in a span of about 10 minutes early in the second half, and sophomore forward-midfielder Haley VanSchaick added her first goal in the 64th minute.

WT broke up the shutout when sophomore Dominique Premac got her first goal of the season with just under five minutes left.

The Zias were credited with seven assists on their four goals. Sophomore Xan Ortiz earned the win in goal, making five saves.

Next up for the Zias is another LSC clash on Friday against Midwestern State at Wichita Falls, Texas.
