Prep football capsules — Oct. 4

Reserve (0-3) at Dora (4-1)

When: 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Last meeting: 2013, Dora crushed the Mountaineers 66-14 on Sept. 6 at Reserve. Last year, the Coyotes won 71-6 at Dora.

Last week: The Coyotes won by forfeit over Roy. Reserve lost to Animas 64-26.

Of note: Dora coach Mason McBee said that while the Mountaineers are clearly a bit outmanned, they do have decent size. … McBee said he thinks the Mountaineers may have lost one of their top players for this game to an ejection last week. … Dora returned two interceptions for scores in the earlier meeting. … The Coyotes have been a bit shorthanded most of the season, but are nearing full strength. “Right now, we’re starting to hit our stride,” McBee said. “Having everybody back and able to practice really helps.”

Floyd (0-3) at San Jon (3-2)

When: 3 p.m. today

Last meeting: n/a.

Last week: The Broncos lost at Lake Arthur 58-6. The Coyotes won by forfeit over New Mexico School for the Deaf.

Of note: Floyd coach Steve Foust said two are questionable this week due to injury. “We’re just trying to stay healthy,” he said. … The Coyotes overwhelmed Roy and Animas prior to last week’s forfeit win. … Top players for San Jon include freshman RB Joseph Benevides and senior RB Carl Webb. … After playing their first two games at home, this is the second of four consecutive road outings that will bring the Broncos’ abbreviated season to an end. … Foust is just looking for progress under trying circumstances. “Our kids have a great attitude and they’re working hard,” he said. “Losing’s not fun, but I think we’re getting better.”
