Hounds harriers sixth at Tech

LUBBOCK — Junior Justin Samaniego and Clovis High grad Chase Beausoleil led Eastern New Mexico University’s men to a sixth-place team finish in Friday’s season-opening Texas Tech Invitational cross country meet.

Samaniego, from Rubidoux, Calif., was 34th out of 125 runners with a time of 27 minutes, 53.34 seconds over eight kilometers, while Beausoleil came in 35th in his first collegiate race at 27:59.28.

The Greyhounds finished with 192 team points in the 13-team field, 11 behind fifth-place Oral Roberts. The host Red Raiders were first with 37 points, finishing 1-2-4 individually led by Kennedy Kithuka’s time of 24:09.00.

ENMU’s women did not participate in the meet.

The teams’ next outing is scheduled for a week from today in the West Texas A&M South Central Region Preview Meet at Canyon, Texas, scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. (MDT).
