PLAINVIEW, Texas — Junior forward David Neuberth pushed in a goal in the first minute of sudden-death over time on Thursday, giving Wayland Baptist a 2-1 men’s soccer victory over Eastern New Mexico University in the Greyhounds’ season opener.

Scoring opportunities were few and far between. The Pioneers (2-1-1) and Hounds traded goals less than a minute apart after going more than 78 minutes scoreless, but it didn’t take long for Neuberth to end it. He took a feed from Juan Sanchez, faked past a defender and beat goalkeeper Severin Niessen to the bottom right corner of the net with 46 seconds gone in the OT.

Renato Dos Anjos put the Pioneers ahead at the 78:28 mark on a penalty kick after a foul was called on the Houndsin the box, but senior midfielder Andy Wilkinson tied it 34 seconds later for ENMU on a free kick from 30 yards out.

The Hounds return to action with a 1 p.m. match on Saturday at the ENMU pitch against Fort Hays State, currently ranked 23rd in NCAA Division II.
