Man convicted twice in same week

Darren Louis James, 47, of Clovis, was convicted of two separate charges this week, according to a release from District Attorney Matt Chandler.

A Curry County jury convicted James Wednesday for failure to appear on a felony charge. The felony charge stems from a 2009 arrest for possession of methamphetamine, according to Chief Deputy District Attorney Andrea Reeb.

On Friday, a separate Curry County jury convicted James of possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and concealing identity. When James was on trial for the drug charges in October 2012, he left the Curry County Courthouse during a court recess and never returned, according to Reeb. He was captured later and hit with the resisting and concealing charges.

James was sentenced on both cases Friday and will serve 10-and-a-half years in prison, Reeb said. His attorney was not available for comment Friday.
