Lady Rams trounce SFIS twice in opener

Portales' season-opening softball doubleheader against Santa Fe Indian School on Friday at Wheeler Park was a total mismatch.

Portales pounded out 34 hits iven innings in a 15-0, 16-0 sweep of the Lady Braves, who were also opening their 2013 campaign.

Senior Summer Martinez and freshman Kiersten Ramirez overmatched the Lady Braves, allowing two hits and one-hit, respectively. The first game went five inningsand the second just three on the run rule.

Junior catcher Simone Laurenz led off the bottom of the first with a home run for Portales. Sophomore Kailee Ramirez had three hitts and three RBIs, while Valerie Villanueva, Laurenz, Kacie Terry and Kiersten Ramirez all had two hits.

In the second game, Kailee Ramirez hit a three-run homer in Portales' 13-run second.

The Lady Rams turn around for an 11 a.m. twin bill today against Roswell High at Wheeler Park.
