Hounds beat Cameron for first LSC win

Eastern New Mexico University scored four first-inning runs Friday night and the Greyhounds notched their first Lone Star Conference victory of the season, a 10-3 victory over Cameron in the opener of a four-game series at Greyhound Field.

Center fielder Brooke Brooks led a 13-hit ENMU attack, going 3-for-4, while right fielder Derek Crenshaw drove in three runs with a single and a double. The Greyhounds (13-10, 1-4 LSC) have now won two straight after dropping nine in a row following an 11-1 start.

The teams, originally slated to play two seven-inning games today and one on Sunday, will instead play a nine-inning single game starting at 10 a.m. today due to high-wind concerns for later in the day. The doubleheader will now be played at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Right-hander Brett Humphries (4-2) earned the win with six solid innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits. Senior Ryan Pruitt picked up a three-inning save, his second of the season, allowing only one hit.

ENMU roughed up Cameron starter Brian Schwabe (1-2) for six hits in the first inning. Creamer and Crenshaw hit back-to-back, bases-loaded singles, and two more runs scored when left fielder Nick Smith allowed Crenshaw's hit to get past him.

Shortstop Brett Ackerman's squeeze bunt in the third made it 5-1, and the Hounds added three more in the fourth on Crenshaw's two-run double to left and a run-scoring single by catcher Jacob Rogers. ENMU plated single runs in the fifth, on Colton Sims' groundout, and in the sixth, on another squeeze bunt, this on by Rafael Romo.

The Hounds outhit Cameron (8-13, 2-3) for the game 13-6, also getting two hits each from left fielder Luis Quinones and fist baseman Daniel Binz.
