Pierced water pipe causes road closure

Martin Luther King was closed south of West Seventh Street most of Friday after a crew installing larger capacity sewer pipes pierced an uncharted water line near the intersection.

City Manager Joe Thomas said most of the water was diverted to a nearby ditch. Some minor amounts of water, however, trickled along the east curb of MLK north of West Seventh.

Thomas said when finished, the new sewer lines will provide sufficient capacity to stop backups being experienced on the west side of Clovis.
