Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

PNT adding Google surveys

Starting Friday, online readers of the Portales News-Tribune will be asked to take a short survey to access full versions of stories.

The PNT is part of Clovis Media Inc., which includes the Clovis News Journal, the Quay County Sun and Cannon Connections. Along with the PNT, the Clovis paper is partnering with Google to implement a survey component on the two websites.

Many news websites are being switched from free pages to partial and full paywalls to recoup some business costs to produce the news and ads in print and online.

CMI is partnering with Google to generate some new revenue without implementing a paywall, Publisher Ray Sullivan said.

Google works with companies needing market research. Partner papers receive a share of the fee companies pay for each brief survey that's completed.

When implemented on the PNT site, a news story will show a few sentences, then require a reader to answer a multiple-choice question or two to see the rest of the story.

The Clovis News Journal began testing Google surveys last September.

Those wishing to avoid the surveys may subscribe to the PNT's replica e-paper for a $6 a month subscription fee. To do so, click on the "Subscribe" tab at the top of the PNT's home page online and follow the steps.
