Portales Womens' Club

Portales Woman's Club met Feb. 13 with President Lois Crozier conducting the meeting.

Pledges were led by Carol Fletcher and the Collect was led by Beth Davis. Gaynelle There were 23 members and 11 guests present. June Ferguson and Teresa Howard assisted the president in presenting membership pins to members recognizing their years of service. The club received a letter of congratulations from Mary Ellen Lasiter, president of the General Federation of Women's Clubs. The president presented roses to Sheryl Borden and Gaynelle Thomas for co-chairing the celebration and to Ferguson as State President. Special guests were members of Jane Hilliard's family and son, John thanked the club for their remembrance of their mother, who had been a member for over 66 years. A nominating committee of Beth Davis, Della Kobernick, Gertie Swager, Patti Schroeder and Gaynelle Thomas was elected. They will be present at the slate of new officers on March 13 at the Smile Train by Andy Mason.

Altrusa

The Altrusa International, Inc. Club of Portales met at noon Feb. 11 at Central Annex. President, Nellie Dyer called the meeting to order. There were 19 members present. Sharon Smith gave the Altrusa Accent. The minutes were approved, correspondence was read and secret pals were thanked. Gaynelle Thomas talked about the upcoming Char-i-Tea, scheduled for March 2. Subcommittees also reported. Literacy reading parties are scheduled at Elida on Feb. 11 and at Dora on Feb. 18. Linda Leaming announced that the next meeting will be on Feb. 25 and the Service Committee is in charge of the program. Members are asked to bring baby shower items to the meeting. Following the business meeting, Sharon Smith introduced local author, Darynda Jones, who talked about her newest publication. Leaming presented her with a Certificate of Appreciation.
