Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

My Turn - Portales full of love

We're putting away the old calendars and opening up new ones. As we wrap up the year, I'd like to spend a little time praising our community.

Once again, we've stayed together through thick and thin. We've attended council meetings, gone to political rallies, voted for candidates, voiced our opinions. We've prayed for one another, and we've debated one another regarding prayer.

We've taught and coached. We've fought fires and defended the helpless. We've given to charities and given rides to stranded motorists. We've spent time comforting friends and loved ones at funerals, and we've spent money supporting our kids' activities.

In this day and age, we carefully tip toe around labels. But I'm going to safely say that with about 40 churches in Roosevelt County we may consider ourselves a Christian community. Over 2,000 years ago the founder of this religion declared that the world would know and recognize his followers by their love for one another.

I've just spent another year of my life witnessing the love poured out by and upon the people of Portales and all the little towns around us. It's been a pleasure. Here comes 2013. It's a good feeling to know we can expect great things and more love from one another.
