My Turn - Open season for Christmas

Now that Thanksgiving is over, it's open season for Christmas everything. I know there are many out there (most likely not in this area) who aren't Christmas people and I feel the consumerism of Christmas has made them that way.

But gifts aside, Christmas is by far my favorite holiday. Christmas is the moment I wait for all year and when it's over, I can't wait for it again.

There is something so magical about Christmas. I am Buddy the elf from the movie "Elf." I love ice skating, caroling, decorating, Christmas cookies and hot chocolate. I absolutely love the smell of fresh pine in my home from the Christmas tree, too.

And this is a time of year where charities are on steroids trying to keep everyone fed and warm .

I know cynics question why people can't be nice the rest of the year. I wonder that too. Yes people should have the Christmas spirit and the spirit of giving all year-round, but in reality they aren't and that's why we should take what we get. If you want to change that, be the change you want to see, but don't take Christmas away from those in love with it.

So I'll pop my Nat King Cole Christmas album in, I'll drink my cocoa, and I'll give a little extra because that's how I celebrate.
