Xcel Energy seeks more renewables in New Mexico
Xcel Energy's Southwestern Public Service Company is seeking proposals for renewable resources other than wind or solar as part of its plan to diversify its renewable energy portfolio.
According to a release from the company, SPS is seeking approximately 88,705 megawatt hours annually of "other" renewable energy generation to be in commercial operation no later than Jan. 1, 2015.
The solicitation will enable the company to comply with regulatory requirements in New Mexico that call for 15 percent of the company's New Mexico retail sales to be derived from renewable resources by 2015.
Bidders are required to submit a Notice of Intent to Bid no later than Aug. 31.

New officers elected for bankers association
New officers and directors were elected during the 28th annual meeting of the Independent Community Bankers of Association near Ruidoso in July.
Local representatives include Gordon Morris, chairman of American Heritage Bank in Clovis, elected for a two-year board of director term; Kent Carruthers, president of Citizens Bank of Clovis, continuing a current two-year term; David Stone, president of the James Polk Stone Community Bank in Portales, board member and national ICBA state director for New Mexico.
Eight community banks, including the James Polk Stone Community Bank (then Portales National Bank), were honored for being chartered during New Mexico's territorial days and still operating today.
The ICBA/NM membership employs more than 2,300 New Mexicans.
Accountant training seminar offered in Roswell
The New Mexico Society of Certified Public Accountants, the New Mexico Society of Enrolled Agents, the New Mexico Small Business Development Centers and the Internal Revenue Service are offering eight hours of continual professional education through a one-day seminar 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell campus.
The seminar is at the Lawrence C. Harris Occupational Technology Center, Room 124.
Tax preparers with valid Practitioner Tax Identification Numbers (PTINs) may earn eight hours of CPE credit depending on the requirements of their organizations. The registration fee is $70 which includes lunch and seminar materials. Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. Seating is limited.
