Hounds sign four runners

The Eastern New Mexico University cross country and track and field teams have signed four athletes to compete on its men's teams in the 2012-13 seasons, according to the release from the university.

Signed are David Blackmer of Mill Creek, Wash.; Joseph Metcalf of Norfolk, Neb.; Kevin Roa of Salinas, Calif. and Kaspars Briska of Riga, Latvia.

They will join a cross country squad that won the Lone Star Conference and NCAA South Central Region, and a track and field team that qualified three athletes for the NCAA Division II championships.

Blackmer has posted times of 1:59 in the 800-meter run and 10:05 in the two-mile run, while Metcalf has times of times of 15:32 and 32:35 in the 5K and 10K, respectively. Roa's top times are 15:13.62 in the 5K and 31:54 in the 10K.

Briska completed the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:08. He also posted times of 14:44, 24:56 and 31:10, in the 5K, 8k and 10K runs, respectively.

The ENMU cross country teams will open the 2012 season Aug. 30 at the Midwestern State University Stampede in Wichita Falls, Texas.
