Samplings of recent calls made to Portales law enforcement, according to police reports:

Saturday, Feb. 18

  • At 9:30 a.m., a man reported he had just been battered in a store parking lot on South Avenue C. He said a man, who was the ex-husband of a woman he'd helped with lodging, approached him yelling. He said the man told him he was keeping him away from his children by not providing his ex-wife's phone number then he shoved him, telling him if he ever found him alone, the man would kill him.
  • At 1:26 p.m., an officer responded to a church in reference to criminal damage. A woman told the officer that between 5 p.m. the day before and 1:25 p.m., someone broke the northwest corner door of the church. Damage was estimated at $50. The officer did not find any evidence of anyone entering the building and the woman said nothing had been disturbed in the church. The case is inactive pending further suspect development.

Sunday, Feb. 19

  • At 10:15 a.m., an officer was dispatched to East Brazos in reference to an auto burglary. A woman said between 10 p.m. the previous night and 10 a.m. that morning, someone broke into her vehicle, tearing the seats, turning a TV in the middle console upside down and stealing $200 from the glove compartment. The officer found no evidence. Due to lack of further information, the case was cleared.
  • At 6:20 p.m., an officer was dispatched to East First Street in reference to burglary. A man told the officer that between the hours of 6 p.m. the previous Thursday and 5:50 p.m. the current day, his vehicle had been parked unlocked in his back driveway. The man returned to the vehicle to find the driver's door open and a LiveWire diesel programmer valued at $600 missing. There was no damage to the vehicle and no other items missing. There is no further information.
