Commission approves burn ban

Curry County residents face severe restrictions on open fires under a Fire Danger Emergency resolution approved Tuesday by county commissioners.

The resolution — a burn ban — was approved on a unanimous vote after commissioners were told the 90-day weather forecast for calls for less than average precipitation, continuing a severe drought. The ban becomes effective immediately and contains limited exceptions for agriculture, such as controlled burns, under certain conditions.
