Daughters of the American Revolution

The El Portal Chapter of the DAR met at the First Christian Church in Clovis on Feb. 12. After regent Pam Wallace led the opening rituals, the business meeting was postponed so that the winners of the essay contest could read their essay and be given their awards. Eighth-grade winner was Kynzi Creighton from Elida. Her essay about the war of 1812 focused on Dolly Madison, whose brave actions helped to preserve a famous portrait of George Washington as well as important documents and records. Reagan Truex, also from Elida was the seventh-grade winner. Her essay told of the importance of Andrew Jackson during the war of 1812. Kaylee Muse from the Clovis Christian School was the sixth-grade essay winner. She read her essay, which was written from the perspective of three young children during the war of 1812. Each essay winner was awarded a medal and certificate.
