TexAnns cruise past Zias

Conference-leading Tarleton State ended any hopes of an Eastern New Mexico University upset early, racing to a 24-point halftime lead en route to a 73-48 win Wednesday in a Lone Star Conference game.

Senior forward Precious Herrin had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Zias (8-15, 6-11 LSC), who are in the middle of a pack of five teams battling for the final three spots in the eight-team conference tournament.

Kiara Tate, who scored a school-record-tying 40 points the last times the teams met, was among a trio of Zias with six points.

Sisters Peyton and Shelby Adamson led Tarleton State (19-6, 16-1) with 12 points each.

A pair of Lace Clark 3-pointers staked ENMU to an 8-5 three minutes into the game. It was all Midwestern State the rest of the half. Kiara Wright’s putback started a 33-4 run over the next 11 1/2 minutes.

The TexAnns ended the half up 46-22.
