My turn: Don't wait until it's too late

My parents had soul. I was listening to good music from the moment I was in the womb. My father is a jazz musician and professor and I play alto sax and sing.

So considering my appreciation for music, you can imagine how torn I was when I heard the news of Whitney Houston’s passing. She had arguably one of the greatest voices of all time. She was quite the powerhouse and one of my idols.

Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston are the kind of entertainers and legends that you would least expect to die at such a young age. They’re supposed to be around forever, at least their music will be.

I read some pretty upsetting comments from people on Whitney’s death and I do agree that we shouldn’t literally idolize entertainers because they’re human with faults too but her music is nostalgic to me. I’ll pay my respects to people who pass, but when I have a deeper connection, it hits me harder.

If anything, this unfortunate event only reminds me I need to call the people I care about and let them know how much I love them. You’ll never know what tomorrow brings so don’t wait until it’s too late.
