Daughters of the American Revolution
The January meeting of the Daughters of the American Revolution was held in the home of Vicky Stratton in Portales on Jan. 14.
After opening rituals led by Regent Pam Wallace, the President’s General’s New Year message was read by Stratton. Jessie Strauch, who is a charter member of the Women in Military Service in America, reported about the grand opening of the new Memorial to Women in all branches of the military in Washington, D.C.
State flags were carried by members of the DAR from each state. Carol Nash quizzed members on the constitution and Magann Rennels read an article about the Native Americans in the Southwest.
Stratton spoke about conservation and said that Habitat for Humanity could use leftover paint, building materials and appliances. Stratton also presented a program about Christmas in colonial America and served wassail and gingerbread from her great great-grandmother’s recipe.
