Hounds add Betts, five others

PORTALES — Clovis High defensive tackle Kenny Betts is among six players — five New Mexico high school athletes and a junior college transfer — who have signed national letters of intent play football next season at Eastern New Mexico University, joining 14 who committed last week on national signing day.

The 6-foot-4, 295-pound Betts helped the Wildcats reach the quarterfinal round of the Class 5A state playoffs last fall and was chosen the New Mexico Preps Class 5A defensive lineman of the year.

Other prep signees include two from Class 4A state runnerup Roswell Goddard — 6-0, 195-pound quarterback Ryan Greene and 6-2, 200-pound outside linebacker David Strickland — along with 5-10, 190-pound quarterback Jude Peike of Valencia, 6-0 and 180-pound defensive back Ibrahim Maiga of Socorro.

The transfer is 6-5, 280-pound guard Isaiah Porter of Paola, Kan., who played at Coffeyville (Kan.) CC.
