My turn: Pranks run in family

My mother knows me too well. Before she moved last week, she gave me a month’s worth of advent boxes she had filled for me, one for each day in December. I opened Thursday’s advent box to discover she had filled it with rubber cockroaches.

Allow me to explain: My father and I have always been the practical jokers of the family, leaving flies in ice cubes in people’s drinks and random vomit and insects in various places for my sisters and mother to nearly have a heart attack over.

So my mother definitely knew leaving me rubber cockroaches was bound to bring Christmas cheer. To say the least, my co-workers have no idea what they’re in for.

Many forms of Christmas cheer are in store for local residents this weekend with the Portales Christmas parade and light show happening at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and Eastern New Mexico University holding two free Christmas concerts at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. today.

Chamber of Commerce Director Karl Terry said there are = new things in store for residents at the light parade this year, so be sure to make it out to First and Second streets in Portales.
