Police blotter — Dec. 1

Recent samplings of calls to Portales law enforcement, according to police reports:

Friday

• At 5:05 p.m., an officer was dispatched to an intersection in reference to an accident. Two lanes were closed due to construction. A semi-truck had its hazard lights on and damage to its right tire. A white Mercedes had damage to its left front bumper.

Officers learned the Mercedes had ran into the truck. When the officer interviewed the driver of the Mercedes, he observed she was not able to maintain her balance and had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. An infant child was also in the back seat.

The woman avoided the officers questions when he asked her if she had been drinking and changed her story multiple times. She also told the officer she was taking prescription medication.

A witness told the officer he had observed the woman in the passenger seat get out of the vehicle and dump a liquid substance.

After performing the field sobriety test, the officer arrested the woman for driving while under the influence of liquor or drugs.

• At 11:59 p.m., an officer was dispatched to East Rose Street in reference to a domestic disturbance.

When the officer entered the home he observed a woman whose nose was bleeding. The woman told the officer she and her husband were arguing over their children.

She said her husband pushed her into the bedroom and would not let her leave and continued pushing her, so she slapped him. The man slapped her back, causing the nosebleed.

The husband told officers that he was laying on his bed, trying to ignore his wife so they wouldn’t argue anymore when she attacked him, punching him multiple times in the face. He told the officer he had no idea how his wife got a bloody nose. The officer did not observe any marks on his face.

The man was arrested for battery against a household member.

Saturday

• At 10:16 p.m., an officer was dispatched to South Avenue J in reference to a battery report. A man was bleeding from his mouth and nose and had a broken tooth. The man told the officer he had gone to retrieve his bed from his ex-girlfriend’s residence with his cousin. He said his ex-girlfriend let him into the house and he was speaking to her when someone struck him on the right side of the face. He said he was knocked to the ground by a man in a hooded sweatshirt, who he identified as his ex-girlfriend’s brother. He said he temporarily lost consciousness and when he came to, he ran from the residence and called the police.

The man’s cousin confirmed his story and the attacker’s identity.

The case is active pending application of an arrest warrant for the attacker on the charge of aggravated battery.

Sunday

• At 12:08 a.m., an officer was dispatched to U.S. 70 in reference to an accident. A vehicle had struck a pole then left the scene, heading west on Spruce Street.

The truck involved in the accident had heavy damage to the front right fender. The officer observed the smell of alcohol coming from the vehicle and saw beer in the passenger side floor, and a beer in the middle console.

The driver said he had consumed three beers and agreed to take a field sobriety test. The man had slurred speech and bloodshot watery eyes. The man was arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs.
