Apartment destroyed in fire

One Clovis apartment was destroyed, but no injuries were reported in a chimney fire Sunday night in the 300 block of Innsdale Terrace.

Battalion Fire Chief Mike Nolen said six residents were evacuated from four apartments in the complex, but only apartment B sustained major damage.

The fire was reported at 9:16 p.m. by a resident of the complex who saw smoke and thought her apartment was on fire, Nolen said. Instead, the fire was on the second floor of a nearby apartment; that resident was unaware of the danger until firefighters arrived, Nolen said.

The cause of the blaze is unknown. Damages are extensive and the resident of apartment B will have to relocate, Nolen said.

Other apartments sustained light smoke damage or water damage, but will not require residents to relocate, Nolen said.
