Haying approval possible

New Mexico farmers can gain approval for haying Conservation Reserve Program acres that will be converted from a Lovegrass, Bluestem or Klein grass to a native grass species cover, according to a press release from New Mexico’s Farm Service Agency.

Producers have until Sept. 30, 2012, to request approval, which will be done on a case-by-case basis, the release said. Haying must be performed outside of the primary nesting and broodrearing season.

Producers can not start haying until they receive approval notification from their local FSA office.
