PORTALES — It took a while, but the Eastern New Mexico University men’s soccer team continued it dominance against University of Texas of the Permian Basin on Wednesday with a 3-1 win.

Despite holding a huge edge in shots on goal, the Hounds (7-3-4) didn’t take the lead until there were eight minute left in the match on junior midfielder Diego Santos’ goal on a rebound off the post made it 2-1.

Junior midfielder Kal Herbert added his second goal of the match six minutes later on a shot from 25 yards out as ENMU improved to 8-2-1 all-time against Texas-Permian Basin.

Herbert leads the Hounds with five goals.

ENMU freshman goalkeeper Matt Malak made one save to register his seventh win of the season, tying Leif Craddock for the school’s single-season record for wins.

ENMU, which set a school record with 28 shots, held a 10-2 edge in shots on goal.

The Falcons (4-10) struck first with Tyler Pate scoring on shot from the left side of the box, exactly 10 minutes in.

Herbert tied the score when he head in a cross passing from Michael Stewart past UTPB’s goalkeeper Craig Branum with 2:56 left in the first half.
