ENMU women third in Vernon rodeo

VERNON, Texas —Carlsbad High grads Jessie Kirkes and Tegan Mills sparked Eastern New Mexico University’s women to a third-place team finish over the weekend in the Vernoon College Rodeo.

Kirkes, a junior, ran away with goat tying competition, finishing first in the first go, short go and average. Mills, a sophomore, split first and second in the the short go and won the short go in breakaway roping.

Senior Shambrae Williams placed fifth in barrel racing, and sophomore Gina Flewelling was sixth in breakaway roping.

For ENMU’s men, sophomore Hadley Howe and junior Trey Southern placed fifth in team roping.

ENMU squads compete at Frank Phillips College in Borger, Texas, this weekend.
