Police blotter —

Recent samplings of calls to Portales law enforcement, according to Police reports:

Tuesday

• At 7:18 p.m., an officer was dispatched to West Fifth Street in reference to larceny. A man told the officer that on Sunday at his place of work, he saw a man and woman loading metal pipes into a vehicle. He said he confronted the two people and they returned the pipes and left. He then noticed that six or seven pipes were still missing.

He told the two suspects to return the pipes if they had removed them. When the pipes were not returned Monday, the man called a recycling business and found out the man and woman had sold them the pipes.

Officers found electrical conduit, junction boxes and other scrap metals at the suspects’ house. When officers confronted the two individuals, the two suspects confessed that they often searched for scrap metal, but denied going to the recycling company, saying they had alibis. The man offered to buy the pipes and return them to the business to resolve the matter.
